The technology, which combines an affordable virtual reality headset with proprietary software, is the foundation for future mixed-reality add-ons to new and existing Redbird training devices.

At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023, Redbird Flight previewed a new instructional tool that is in development for its line of training devices. Redbird Ace is a real-time intelligent demonstrator that can take the controls of the simulated aircraft to perform and explain maneuvers. It is the latest technology in development by Redbird Alpha, the company’s advanced development division.

Redbird Upgrades Simulation Engine

Redbird Flight today released a major upgrade to its fleet of training devices, making them fully compatible with 64-bit simulation engines. Available on all Redbird devices, the upgrade takes full advantage of the performance enhancements available in the core simulation engine, Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D. In addition, it boosts the overall performance of the simulation and improves the graphics rendering capabilities, providing a smoother and more immersive environment for pilots flying in the simulated world.

Today at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022, Redbird Flight (Redbird) uncovered for the first time a proof of concept for a desktop flight training device that utilizes mixed-reality (MR) technology. Developed on the same platform as the company’s FAA-approved Basic Aviation Training Device, the Redbird TD, the new device adds a mixed-reality headset that amplifies a pilot’s visual cues, creating a more immersive environment for flight training.
