At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023, Redbird Flight previewed a new instructional tool that is in development for its line of training devices. Redbird Ace is a real-time intelligent demonstrator that can take the controls of the simulated aircraft to perform and explain maneuvers. It is the latest technology in development by Redbird Alpha, the company’s advanced development division.
Building on the company’s AI-powered training solutions, Ace will constantly assess the conditions of a flight anywhere in the virtual world and present learners with a suitable list of maneuvers it can perform at any given time. When directed to do so, Ace will take the flight controls and perform the requested maneuver. Core to the technology is a voice recognition engine that allows users to ask Ace to demonstrate a maneuver using a connected headset. If desired, pilots can choose to have Ace talk through the maneuver as it is flown, helping reinforce the proper procedures.
In addition to acting as a demonstrator, Ace can act as a safety pilot, taking the controls when certain flight conditions exceed the performance envelope for the simulated aircraft. When this happens, Ace will attempt to return the aircraft to wings level at a safe and appropriate altitude.
Redbird plans to make Ace available in its Navigator operating system for use in free flights or compatible scenarios developed for its wide range of software and curriculum solutions, including Redbird Pro, Guided Independent Flight Training (GIFT), and Simulated Flight School, the company’s course offering that uses simulation to extend the experience and benefits of a flight training program to K-12 classrooms.
Redbird is previewing Ace throughout the week of AirVenture at exhibit space 301.
