A new floatplane training device addresses a void in the unique flight training market.
At EAA AirVenture 2018, Redbird Flight Simulations, Wipaire and Tropic Ocean Airways announced a partnership intended to modernize floatplane training. As the design and usage of floatplanes have advanced, the technology utilized for pilot training has remained stagnant. To address the unique training requirements for floatplane pilots, Redbird has customized its immersive, full-motion CRV training device—which represents a Cessna 208 Grand Caravan—to include an amphibious float kit designed and manufactured by Wipaire.

Aviation-themed, youth outreach initiative enhances program with Redbird FMX simulator.
Austin, TX (January 8, 2018) – Supporting the growth of its innovative, aviation-based, youth outreach program, the Bob Hoover Academy (BHA) and Redbird Flight Simulations have partnered to integrate flight simulation into its curriculum.
Based in Salinas, California, which retains one of the state’s highest, youth homicide rates, BHA utilizes flight training to engage local, at-risk teens in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Since 2017, and for several years prior under the moniker, Every Kid Can Fly, the academy has executed a full ground training curriculum and flight training program with a single instructor and airplane. With a full-motion, Redbird FMX simulator in its facility, BHA now enables students to hone their skills even when they are apart from their aircraft and instructor.

Pilots participating in the EAA Pilot Proficiency Center will receive an interactive debriefing experience through Redbird Sidekick.
Redbird Flight is proud to support the EAA Pilot Proficiency Center by providing 14 training devices, Sidekick data collection system, and its new debriefing application on Redbird Landing. The Pilot Proficiency Center serves as a gathering point for pilots of all levels to enhance skills, learn from expert instructors, and become safer pilots through effective simulation training. Those who visit the Pilot Proficiency Center will be able to choose from 32 different training scenarios. At AirVenture, all simulator flights will be recorded with Redbird’s Sidekick technology and uploaded to the Redbird Landing. Data collected by Sidekick will allow pilots to perform a thorough debrief of the scenarios at the Redbird exhibit or at home by visiting landing.redbirdflight.com/debrief. Attendees participating in the Pilot Proficiency Center will receive an ID badge that will identify and associate them with all of their training flights. At the Redbird exhibit space (located next to the Proficiency Center), they can retrieve their flight information with the QR code and review everything about their training session.
